From Script to Screen: Draft scripts/story development
The three chosen keywords for the story are Ballerina, Prison, Candelabra. I figured that it is hard to find the relationship between a ballerina and prison, so I chose to use the keyword prison as a mental state of the protagonist ballerina. As for candelabra, it will be used as a light source to exaggerate the feeling or the situation that the character is going through rather than having a direct influence on the story.
The first draft story was about the protagonist having a conflict with her fellows due to severe competition and heavy pressure, however, I found it quite difficult to depict all the process of resolving conflict in a 2-minute animation, therefore I decided to change the main trigger of the conflict which is an injury of the main character. In the new story, the conflict is in the character herself, not the surrounding characters.
When the animation starts, the ballerinas group of about 5 are practicing in the room, but one of them, the main character, accidentally falls into the floor and this accident results in an injury that can affect her performance. After that, she became unable to practice anymore while recovering. The character feels as if she is in prison since she cannot do what she wants to do and accomplish her goal. She considers deeply about quitting her career as a ballerina. After a week later, she attends the performance that originally she was planned to be a part of, watching her fellows performing and in that moment she realized that she wants to be in that kind of performance someday even if she missed a chance once. She found her hope again and after the recovery, she came back to practice. However, she was not like her before due to the long suspension. While she is frustrated, her fellows came and encouraged and gave hand to get her back in condition. The story ends with her performing with her companion.
