What if Metropolis: Travelogue

Walking out from the railway station of Fedora, the silhouette of the central city is clearly visible. The central city where most landmarks and business districts are located is not so far from the station. The unique architectures and high-rise offices are highly condensed in the central city. The contrast between the central city and outer area is significant. It is quite definite that this city was planned as a grid road network and separated residential and commercial areas can be seen. The closer you get to the center of the city, the more crowded and denser it gets. As most modern high-density cities in the world, Fedora is not so different. People are always rushing for something and seemed very under pressure and stressed out.
As you step onto the very middle part of the commercial district of Fedora, you can see a completely different look at the city. The central park of Fedora and the museum are there in the central city. This places surely representing the city with the distinctive architecture of the museum and the iconic monument in the center of the park. The park is full of trees and the rest of the city is basically a concrete jungle. This reminds me of New York’s Central Park. This park is much smaller in scale, however, it is significant in its meaning. The park area is where the city started and expanded. As the city grows bigger city planners in Fedora put a lot of effort to make the city a better place, however, the city grew too fast so the plan could not catch up and became a paper plan. The miniature made to visualize the possible future of the city became nothing but a piece of plastic. It is now stored in the shape of a crystal ball and displayed in the park. People of Fedora visit this place and hope that there would be another chance for the city’s improvement. When you look at the skyline of the city, you will notice a lot of construction is ongoing. The city bears missed opportunities from the past but also has hope for the future.
The museum is the center of the city’s art and culture at the same time it contains alternative city plans from the past, basically the same as the one in the crystal ball monument. Looking at the architecture of the museum and the surrounding cityscape, you will notice the entire area has common design language and elaborately planned. Most structure including the museum and the bridge in the park has a curvature which resembles the shape of the crystal ball. The idea of its crystal ball with a miniature city in itself is what truly represents and reflects the city’s historic background. The museum has a rounded oval shape that resembles crystal balls and overall the architecture is very sharp and modern which makes itself stand out from the mundane concrete jungle in the rest of the city. Inside the museum, there are several exhibitions going on. Apart from the general art and culture exhibition, the photographic archive of the city’s history can be found on the third floor. Not only the photographs, but a lot of different versions of the city store in crystal balls are also displayed next to the archive exhibition.
The sky shifts to black as going through the museum and it started to rain. From the top floor of the museum, you can see the contrast between the park area of the city and the rest. The museum, the park, and the surroundings are lit very brightly and the lights reflected to the wet streets caused by rain create fantastic scenery with very vibrant, contrast, and saturated colors. When you go back to the residential area in the outer park area where the hotels are located, you will realise that all the fancy landmarks and bright lights in central Fedora are just a dreamy place as you walk down the streets that get darker and duller.
