Soundscape: Reflective Statement
This project required sound effects for 3 abstract images. There were several challenges through the process of collecting the original sounds and post-producing them.
First of all, at the very beginning of the project, I started by collecting as many sounds as possible from various places. However, not all of the collected sounds were usable for the final product due to the bad recording environment especially when it comes to an outdoor environment with strong wind and ambient noises. After the recording process, picking the right sound for the images was another challenge since the images were quite abstract and unlikely to experience in real life, so most of the recordings could not be used without any post-production and it was quite difficult to imagine how the sounds will turn out to be when different effects were applied to them.
The length requirement of 30 seconds made the editing process harder. When editing and merging different tracks, the result sounds quite repetitive which was quite difficult to deal with. Eventually, I could not find a perfect solution to this since most of my collected sounds were not long enough to avoid repetition so I figured recording long enough is quite important for the later process.
Moreover, there were a few technical difficulties including dealing with the noise when merging two separate tracks. As mention above, the original sounds were not long enough so repeating tracks were essential to making the track meet the requirement, however, there was some sort of ticking noise between the boundaries when multiple tracks merged together. Some parts that were causing this issue were cut out and several sound effects were tried to even out the boundaries, however, this problem could not be perfectly solved.
